Ardenne Abbey is a medieval abbey west of Caen with a grim D-Day history. In June 1944, Canadian prisoners of war were executed here while the site was being used as a Waffen-SS headquarters. The abbey is now a sobering stop for visitors following the Normandy campaign beyond the beaches and major museums.
