Collégiale Notre-Dame

The Collégiale Notre-Dame in Grand-Andely is a large and handsome church that blends Gothic and Renaissance styles in a characteristically Norman way. Construction began in the 13th century and continued through the 16th, so the nave is solidly Gothic while the south portal and parts of the transept show Renaissance detailing — a combination that works surprisingly well.

Inside, look for the 16th-century stained glass windows, particularly those in the choir, which survived the Second World War relatively intact. The church is also notable for a fine 17th-century organ case. It is the architectural centrepiece of Grand-Andely and worth ten minutes of your time even if you are not a great church-goer.
