Schloss Favorite

Schloss Favorite is a small baroque pleasure palace built between 1717 and 1723 as a hunting lodge and summer residence, set in its own deer park about a kilometre north of the Residenzschloss. Compared to the main palace it is intimate and lighter in mood — a single pavilion of pink and cream stucco, lifted by a long perspective view that connects it visually to the Residenzschloss across the parkland.

The interior, open for guided tours, has rococo plasterwork and a small but exquisite set of state rooms. The surrounding park is free to walk and home to a herd of fallow and red deer that have lived semi-wild here for centuries. The walk between the two palaces, through the avenues of the deer park, is one of the better short strolls in town — about 20 minutes each way and especially good at dusk when the deer move down to graze near the path.
