Gasometer Pforzheim

The Gasometer is a 1912 gas-holder on the eastern edge of the city, converted into an exhibition space for the monumental 360° panoramas of the artist Yadegar Asisi. The displays rotate every couple of years — past shows have included Rome 312, the Great Barrier Reef, the Amazon rainforest, and a panorama of bombed-out Pforzheim itself.

A viewing platform inside the cylinder gives different perspectives at different heights. Entry around €13. Allow 60–90 minutes. Probably the most striking single thing to do in the city outside the Schmuckmuseum.

A story
Yadegar Asisi's giant 360° panoramas of Rome at the time of Constantine, of the Great Barrier Reef, and of the Amazon rainforest, each over 100 metres around and 30 metres high, are installed inside a converted 1912 gas-holder — the largest cylindrical panorama gallery in the world.
