Stuttgart's Fernsehturm was the first television tower of its kind: a slender reinforced-concrete mast with an observation deck and restaurant near the top. That engineering idea became a model for broadcast towers across the world, but the original still feels elegant rather than merely functional.
The practical reason to go is the view. Stuttgart sits in a basin, so from the tower you can read the city's geography at once: vineyards, wooded ridges, suburbs climbing the slopes, and the centre tucked below. Go on a clear day, and bring a jacket for the exposed platform.
