Altötting is in southeastern Bavaria, roughly 90 km east of Munich and close to the Austrian border. Regional trains connect it with Mühldorf, which has onward services toward Munich, Rosenheim, and Landshut; the station is a short walk from Kapellplatz.
By car, Altötting combines easily with Marktl am Inn, Burghausen, and the Inn-Salzach towns. Parking is signposted around the edge of the centre, which is the sensible approach on pilgrimage days.
