Burghausen is in southeastern Bavaria, close to the Austrian border. Regional trains connect the town with Muehldorf am Inn, where you change for Munich and other Bavarian cities. The station is above the old centre; buses and taxis cover the short distance down to Stadtplatz, but walkers can manage it.
By car, Burghausen is straightforward from the A94/Muehldorf corridor or from Salzburg via the Inn and Salzach valleys. Parking is available near the castle and around the newer town, though the lower old town is best explored on foot.
