Füssen's old town is a compact triangle of painted facades, tightly cobbled lanes, and small squares wedged between the Lech river and the slopes up to the Hohes Schloss. The main commercial street is Reichenstraße, a single straight pedestrian lane with the painted oriels of merchant houses on both sides, and the modern shops and cafés tucked behind 17th-century facades.
The narrower side streets — Brotmarkt, Hutergasse, Brunnengasse — are quieter and reveal the older bones of the town: medieval well-houses, the old grain-storage hall, the bullet marks of the Thirty Years' War on some walls. The whole Altstadt is small enough to walk end-to-end in fifteen minutes, but rewards the slower wander of a couple of hours.
