Lechfall

A 12-metre waterfall on the Lech river at the southern edge of Füssen, where the river drops over an engineered concrete weir into a narrow rocky gorge. The falls were a natural barrier in the medieval period (boats had to be portaged around them) and were rebuilt in 1786 in their current form to drive a series of watermills. The water roars impressively, especially in spring snowmelt.

A pedestrian bridge — the Maxsteg — spans the gorge just downstream and gives the best view of the falls and the mineral-blue water. A short path leads down to the riverside at the bottom of the falls. The whole detour from the Altstadt is a 15-minute walk. Pleasant in any weather; especially good at sunset when the light hits the water.
