Schachentor is a mountain viewpoint above Garmisch-Partenkirchen, reached as part of the walking routes around the Schachen area. The draw is the high Alpine setting and the link with King Ludwig II's mountain retreat nearby.
Come for a proper hike rather than a roadside lookout. In clear weather the views across the Wetterstein mountains are the reward.
