A small alpine lake set in pine forest about half an hour's walk from the centre of Mittenwald. The water is clear and cold, deep enough to swim in during the warmer summer months, and the path round it (about 2 km) is an easy walk suitable for families. There is a small lakeside restaurant for coffee and Kaiserschmarrn.
For something a little longer, the route can be extended via Ferchensee, a second small lake another 30 minutes further on. Together the two lakes make a flat half-day walk and are a fine alternative to the more strenuous mountain hikes.
