The parish church of Sts Peter and Paul, finished in 1740, is the visual centre of Mittenwald. Its slim white tower is decorated with Lüftlmalerei frescoes of biblical scenes that wrap around all four sides, repainted several times over the centuries and beautifully maintained today.
The interior, in pale stucco rococo, was created by Joseph Schmuzer of the Wessobrunner School and has the characteristic Bavarian lightness — pastel ceiling frescoes, gilded altars, abundant cherubs. Worth a few minutes on the way to or from the Geigenbaumuseum next door.
