Gostenhof — locally nicknamed "GoHo" — is the neighbourhood immediately west of the old city walls, a grid of 19th-century apartment blocks that has become the most interesting part of Nuremberg for bars, independent shops, and cheap restaurants. The population is mixed, with Turkish, Eastern European, and student communities giving it a character very different from the scrubbed medieval centre.
The main bar street is Rothenburger Straße, where a run of Kneipen (neighbourhood pubs) stays busy until late. The area is ten minutes' walk from the Hauptmarkt, or one stop on the tram from the main station.
