Tauberfranken Wine

Tauber valley wines from the slopes above town

The slope behind Röttingen is covered in vines and has been since the Middle Ages, when the local monasteries planted it. The Tauberfranken region is one of the smaller wine areas in Franconia, producing crisp dry whites — Müller-Thurgau, Silvaner, and Bacchus — that are almost impossible to find outside the region.

Several small family wineries in Röttingen and the surrounding villages offer tastings; ask at the tourist office for who is currently open, since the producers rotate visitor hours through the year. The traditional bottle shape — the squat Bocksbeutel — is a giveaway for Franconian wine in any shop.
