Rosenheim is a pleasant market town rather than a headline destination, but it has a handsome old centre and serves well as a base for day trips into the Bavarian Alps and to the Chiemsee. The Max-Josefs-Platz and its surrounding arcaded streets are the heart of the old town. The Inn-Museum on the riverbank is the most distinctive local sight, covering the salt trade that made the town wealthy.
