Housed within Schloss Rheinsberg, this small museum is dedicated to Kurt Tucholsky (1890–1935), the Weimar-era satirist, journalist, and novelist who set his most famous work here. His 1912 novella Rheinsberg: A Picture Book for Lovers — a brief, tender, and funny story of a young couple's weekend in the town — was a publishing sensation and established Rheinsberg as a romantic destination. Tucholsky later fled Germany after the Nazis came to power and died in Swedish exile in 1935.
The museum covers his life and work with documents, photographs, and first editions. It is a rewarding stop even for visitors unfamiliar with his writing — the displays convey a strong sense of the Weimar literary world he inhabited, and the connection between the writer and the place he loved is movingly drawn.
