The EuroVelo 15 Rhine Cycle Route runs along the embankment between Erfelden and the Rhine, passing the western edge of the Kuhkopf-Knoblochsaue reserve. This stretch of the route is among the flattest and most peaceful in the entire 1,230-kilometre corridor from the Alps to the North Sea — the Hessian Ried is essentially table-flat, and the riverside path runs through open landscape with wide views east to the Odenwald hills and west across the river to Rheinhessen.
The embankment path is well-surfaced and clearly signed. A popular day circuit from Riedstadt combines the Rhine path with a loop through the nature reserve and a return via the villages. From Erfelden the footbridge gives access to the Kuhkopf; further south the vehicle bridge at Stockstadt (restricted to authorised traffic, but open to cyclists and pedestrians) offers another crossing point, and in the warmer months a small ferry operates at Guntersblum on the opposite bank. The total circuit from Erfelden and back runs to about 25 kilometres.
Bicycles can be rented in Darmstadt, 20 kilometres north, which has several hire stations including Deutsche Bahn's Call a Bike. The S-Bahn connects Riedstadt-Goddelau station with Darmstadt in about 20 minutes, making it straightforward to arrive by rail and explore by bike.
