The Wilhelmstraße is the grandest boulevard in Wiesbaden — a tree-lined avenue laid out in the late 18th century and lined on both sides with grand Wilhelminian-era buildings, designer shops, and the city's most expensive hotels. Locals call it simply "the Rue," and a stroll up and down it remains one of the city's quintessential rituals.
On the east side is the Warmer Damm park and the Hessian State Theatre; on the west, an unbroken row of stately townhouses and the Hotel Nassauer Hof. The street runs from the Bowling Green (in front of the Kurhaus) south to the Kaiser-Friedrich-Ring, and along the way is the city's best window-shopping. The Saturday weekly market overflows onto the Wilhelmstraße from May to October.
