The Brunswick Lion stands on Burgplatz in front of Dankwarderode Castle and Brunswick Cathedral. It is the city's best-known landmark, often called the Burglöwe, or castle lion, and it gave Braunschweig its familiar Lion City identity.
It is a quick stop rather than a long visit, but it belongs on a walk through the old centre because so much of the city's symbolism gathers around this square.
