Frisian Islands

North Sea island chain off Lower Saxony, known for car-free villages, spas, and Wadden landscapes.

The East Frisian Islands lie before the North Sea coast like a string of pearls, attracting thousands of visitors every year. They consist of seven islands: Borkum, Juist, Norderney, Baltrum, Langeoog, Spiekeroog and Wangerooge.

Just like their sister islands in the Netherlands (the West Frisian Islands), the East Frisian Islands are famous for their therapeutic spas and health resorts. Some are completely car-free — Juist, Baltrum and Spiekeroog — making them great for wandering, birdwatching and other nature lovers. The islands are well connected by ferries, making them ideal for cycling holidays in the sea air. When there, be sure to take a day trip out to Helgoland to see the fantastic sandstone formations.
