St Mary's Church gives Uelzen its older architectural weight. The brick-gothic church rises over the centre in the north German way: plain, vertical, and more serious than pretty.
It is not a destination church on the scale of Lubeck or Hildesheim, but it is the natural second stop after the station and helps the town feel rooted rather than gimmicky.
