The Pomeranian State Museum is Greifswald's serious indoor stop. It covers regional history and art, but the main draw for many travellers is Caspar David Friedrich and the wider Romantic landscape tradition of the Baltic coast. The museum occupies a modern complex on the site of a former Franciscan abbey, with fragments of older architecture worked into the building.
