Monschau's old town is the main reason to come: a tight knot of half-timbered houses, bridges, river views, and lanes that have changed little in centuries. It is small, so the trick is not to rush it. Wander early or late, when the day-trip buses thin out and the Rur becomes louder than the shopfronts.
