Red House

Eighteenth-century cloth merchant's mansion with preserved interiors and textile history.

The Red House was built around 1760 for Johann Heinrich Scheibler, one of Monschau's great cloth merchants. Inside, the rooms still show the confidence of that trade: Rococo and Empire furnishings, textile displays, and a famous carved staircase that turns woollen cloth into a story in wood.
