Schloss Neuhaus is a Renaissance water castle on the northwestern edge of Paderborn, set in a formal park beside the confluence of the Lippe and Alme rivers. Built in the sixteenth century as the residence of the Prince-Bishops of Paderborn, it is one of the most important Renaissance buildings in Westphalia.
The castle is now used as a secondary school, which means the interior is not generally accessible to visitors, but the exterior and the surrounding park are well worth visiting. The formal gardens have been partially restored to their baroque layout, and the views across the moat to the four-towered façade are impressive. The surrounding park is popular with locals for walks.
