Grevenburg Castle was built in the 14th century and battered repeatedly in the wars that swept this part of the Mosel. What remains is fragmentary, but the setting does most of the work: the ruins stand above Trarbach with a wide view over the river bend, vineyards, and roofs below.
The walk up is short and steep enough to feel like a real climb. Go early or late in the day, when the light on the Mosel makes the ruined walls feel more substantial than they are.
