The Traben-Trarbach Underworld is the name used for guided visits into the old cellar network beneath the town. These tunnels and vaulted spaces were built for wine storage when Traben-Trarbach was a major Riesling trading centre.
The cellars are the best way to understand the town's former scale. Above ground it feels like a handsome Mosel resort; below ground you see the infrastructure that made its wine economy serious.
