Windebyer Noor

Immediately behind the town, separated from the bay by a narrow strip of land, the Windebyer Noor is a brackish lagoon of about 70 hectares. It is quiet in a way that the beach never quite is: no waves, no Strandkorb vendors, just reeds, willow trees, and the sound of waterfowl. A well-maintained path circles most of the lake and takes about an hour to walk at a leisurely pace.

The Noor is a good spot for birdwatching, particularly in the spring and autumn migration seasons when waders, ducks, and occasional raptors pass through. In summer it is busy with dragonflies and the vegetation is lush. On the southern shore, the path opens onto a small viewpoint over the water. Locals use it year-round for morning walks; it is rarely crowded even in peak summer when the beach is packed.
