Düne is the low sandy island just east of Heligoland's main island. It was separated by a storm flood in the 18th century and is now reached by a short boat shuttle.
The beaches are the main reason to go, but the seals make it special. Grey seals and harbour seals rest on the sand, especially outside the busiest summer swimming hours. Keep the required distance; this is wildlife watching, not a petting zoo.
