The Camsdorf Bridge is the oldest stone arch bridge in Jena, crossing the Saale between the city centre and the suburb of Wenigenjena. It dates from the fourteenth century in its original form, though it has been modified and widened several times since. The bridge is now pedestrian and cycle only, which makes it a pleasant crossing and a good starting point for the riverside walks on both banks.
From the bridge there are excellent views upstream toward the limestone cliffs and downstream toward the JenTower. It is the traditional point of departure for the ascent of the Jenzig, which begins immediately on the far bank. The GrĂ¼ne Tanne inn sits at the eastern end of the bridge and has been refreshing Jena's hill walkers since the eighteenth century.
