Getting There

Jena is well connected by rail and sits on one of Germany's main east-west railway axes.

By train: Jena has two central stations, Jena Paradies and Jena West. Regular IC and ICE services connect via Leipzig (35–45 minutes) and from there to Frankfurt, Berlin, and Munich. Regional trains run frequently to Erfurt (45 minutes) and Weimar (30 minutes). The Saalbahn runs north toward Naumburg and the Saale valley.

By car: Jena is on the A4 motorway (Frankfurt–Dresden axis) and the A9 (Berlin–Munich). The city centre is compact and largely pedestrianised; park on the edge and walk or take the tram.

Locally: Jena has a good tram network covering the valley floor and a fleet of buses for the hillside suburbs. The city centre, both university quarters, and the Paradies park are all easily walkable from each other. Cycling is popular along the Saale riverside paths.
