Emir Zade Mosque

A 15th-century Ottoman mosque a short walk inland from the old bridge, restored as a small monument and occasional exhibition space. The minaret is gone, but the prayer hall with its central dome and octagonal drum still gives a clean reading of the original architecture.

A quick visit, fifteen to twenty minutes, useful for a sense of the city's long Venetian-Ottoman-Greek layering. Opening hours are limited — check at the tourist office or the adjacent archaeological museum.

A story
The mosque is the only surviving Ottoman religious building in Chalkis and one of the few on the island of Euboea — most were destroyed or converted in the decades after Greek independence. Restoration in the 2010s revived the building, but it does not function as an active mosque.
