Petres is the archaeological site of a Hellenistic city above Lake Petra, southeast of Florina. Its position on a 720-metre hill controlled the lake, the plain, and the local routes that connected with the Via Egnatia.
The site is most interesting for travellers who like ancient ruins in a landscape setting. The remains are not as complete as Greece's headline sites, but the views over the lake help explain why the city mattered in the 2nd century BC.
