The Megalithic Gate of ancient Ismara is a rougher, more adventurous stop east of the main ruins. Access is by track and short footpath, and the site rewards travellers who enjoy reading a landscape without much hand-holding.
If you continue beyond the gate, signs lead toward an ancient wine press, a good reminder that Maroneia's archaeological story and wine story are closely tangled.
