Alopronia

Alopronia is the small harbour village where the ferry from Piraeus and Santorini docks. It has a handful of tavernas, a few rooms to rent, and the island's longest sandy beach — Livadi — just to the east of the quay. The beach is pleasant and rarely crowded; the water is clear and calm, sheltered from the prevailing meltemi wind.

Most visitors who stay in Alopronia rather than the Hora do so because of the beach proximity and the convenience of the port. The village has more life in the evenings than you might expect — the tavernas along the waterfront fill up and the atmosphere is genuinely relaxed. A daily bus connects Alopronia to the Hora, taking about ten minutes.
