Monastery of Zoodochos Pigi

A working nunnery perched on the eastern edge of the Kastro at 370 metres above sea level, the Monastery of Zoodochos Pigi (Life-Giving Spring) dates to the late 17th century and remains active today. It is reached by a 300-metre stone path that climbs above the Hora — steep but short — and the views from the monastery walls are among the best on the island.

The monastery is the spiritual patron of Sikinos and is celebrated on the first Friday after Orthodox Easter, one of the island's main festivals. The small church inside the monastery walls is usually open during the day; visitors are welcome but should dress modestly. The nuns who live here cultivate the surrounding land and occasionally sell local products at the gate.
