Kini is a small fishing village and beach about 9km from Ermoupoli on the west coast, quieter and more traditional in character than the busier Galissas bay to the south. The village retains its working fishing-harbour atmosphere: coloured caiques moored alongside the quay, nets spread out to dry in the morning sun, and tavernas serving the catch of the day with a directness that resort beaches rarely achieve.
The beach itself is pebbly in parts but has good swimming. The road to Kini passes through some of the island's interior villages, making it worth taking the long way around if you have a scooter or car. In summer, the village comes alive in the evenings; out of season it goes very quiet.
