The Aranyosi valley just outside Erdőbénye is the gateway into the protected forests of the Zemplén nature conservation area — oak and beech woods, small streams, and quiet walking trails. The air is clean enough that the area has been designated a climatic health resort.
Marked trails lead north into the hills, with day-walks to ruined castles at Boldogkőváralja, Füzér, and Regéc. Mountain biking and (in season) hunting are the other main activities. The valley is the obvious starting point for anything more ambitious than a vineyard stroll.
