Erdőbénye is an excellent base for the wider Tokaj region. Tokaj itself, the namesake town at the confluence of the Bodrog and Tisza rivers, is 20 km south — useful for the cellars and the small town museum.
Further afield, Sárospatak (35 km) is one of the most historically significant towns of north-eastern Hungary, with a magnificent Renaissance castle. The medieval hilltop castle ruins at Boldogkőváralja, Füzér, and Regéc are all within an hour's drive — Füzér in particular has a dramatic restored keep with panoramic views over the Zemplén forests.
