Mátyás Csárda

A traditional Hungarian csárda (country inn-style restaurant) that has been feeding visitors near the old town for decades. The menu doesn't deviate far from the classics — halászlé (fisherman's soup), töltött káposzta (stuffed cabbage), and various preparations of pork — but it does them well. The paprika-heavy dishes are rich and warming, exactly what you want after a long day on your feet.

The room has the folk-decorated walls and heavy wooden furniture that the genre requires. Live folk music on Friday and Saturday evenings adds to the atmosphere without becoming a tourist performance. Booking recommended on weekends.
