Getting There

Győr sits on the main Budapest–Vienna railway corridor, which makes it one of the most accessible Hungarian cities outside the capital. Direct trains from Budapest Keleti run roughly every hour and take around 1 hour 40 minutes; the journey from Vienna Hauptbahnhof takes about the same time in the other direction. Both routes are served by comfortable intercity trains.

By road, Győr is on the M1 motorway between Budapest (130 km) and the Austrian border at Hegyeshalom (30 km). The drive from Budapest takes under 90 minutes in normal traffic. There is no international airport in Győr — the nearest are Vienna (about 90 minutes away) and Budapest Liszt Ferenc (about 140 km). Both are realistic bases if you want to fly in.
