Great Church (Kecskemét Cathedral)

The Great Church, also called the Co-Cathedral of the Ascension and locally the Öregtemplom (Old Church), is the dominant building on Kossuth Square. Built between 1774 and 1806 in late Baroque style, with a tall white spire rising over the city, it serves as the Co-Cathedral of the Archdiocese of Kalocsa-Kecskemét.

The interior is straightforward, with a fine high altar and ornate side chapels, but the real attraction is the tower — open in summer for visitors willing to climb 200 steps. The view stretches across the city's pastel rooftops and the surrounding Puszta grasslands to the horizon in every direction. There is no entry fee for the church, a small charge for the tower.
