Hungarian Naïve Art Museum

The Hungarian Naïve Art Museum is the only museum in the world dedicated entirely to naïve and self-taught art, and is one of Kecskemét's quiet surprises. It occupies the 18th-century Stork House, a Baroque mansion two minutes' walk from the main square, with its rooms hung floor-to-ceiling with the strange and vivid paintings of Hungarian peasant artists from the early 20th century onwards.

The collection is organised by artist — figures like the shepherd-painter István Joó, the railway worker Gizella Dudás, and the dwarf artist István Süli, who painted for the first time aged 60. The work is often unsettling, sometimes deeply moving, and quite unlike anything you will see in a conventional gallery. Allow an hour. Closed Mondays. Combine with the adjacent Toy Museum.
