A short way north of the town, a stone obelisk and small plaque mark the site of the Battle of Mór, fought on the last days of 1848 during the Hungarian Revolution. The Hungarian army had hoped to hold the line west of the capital; instead they were broken in a short, sharp engagement and pushed back across the Danube.
The memorial is unassuming — a single column in a field — but the surrounding farmland still looks much as it would have on that cold December day. It is a five-minute drive out of town, or a forty-minute walk through vineyards.
