The Buffalo Reserve at Káptalanpuszta is one of the more distinctive small excursions from Zalakaros. Hungarian grey cattle and water buffalo graze in wetland pasture connected to the Kis-Balaton landscape, giving visitors a close look at animals that once played a much larger role in rural life.
The reserve is easy-going and family-friendly, with paths and interpretation rather than safari drama. Its value is partly ecological and partly cultural: it shows how conservation, old breeds, and the marshy Balaton hinterland fit together.
