Bæjarins Beztu Pylsur

The famous hot-dog stand by the harbour, open since 1937

Address Tryggvagata 1

A small white cabin by the harbour that has been serving lamb-and-pork hot dogs since 1937. The standing order — "eina með öllu" (one with everything) — comes with crispy fried onions, raw white onions, sweet brown mustard, ketchup, and remoulade, all on a steamed bun, for around 700 ISK.

There is almost always a queue and almost no inside; eat standing up by the harbour wall like everyone else. Open late into the night, which makes it a fixture of the weekend Rúntur.

A story
Bill Clinton bought a hot dog here in 2004 with only mustard, which the locals found so under-equipped that 'a Clinton' became Reykjavik shorthand for a plain pylsa for years afterward.
