Reykjavík Museum of Photography

Top-floor museum of Icelandic photography in the city library building

Address Tryggvagata 15

On the sixth floor of the city library building near the harbour, the Reykjavík Museum of Photography holds an archive of around six million Icelandic images — from the earliest 1860s plates to contemporary art photography — and runs a programme of changing exhibitions drawn from the collection or from invited Icelandic and international photographers.

Admission is free, the rotating shows are usually excellent, and the views back toward Harpa from the top-floor windows are an unexpected bonus. The library cafe downstairs is a useful warm-up stop on a windy day.
