Not a zoo of exotic animals, the Reykjavík Family Park and Zoo (Húsdýragarðurinn) collects the species of Iceland: sheep, cows, the small Icelandic horse, hens, pigs, reindeer, Arctic foxes, seals and a tank of cod and salmon from the bay. Attached is a small fairground with a Ferris wheel, bumper cars and a few simple rides.
It is on the edge of Laugardalur park, a fifteen-minute bus ride east of the centre, and is the easiest way for a family with small children to spend half a day. Combine with Laugardalslaug pool next door.
