In a high-ceilinged warehouse on Grandi, Whales of Iceland displays twenty-three life-size whale models — every cetacean species found in Icelandic waters, from the harbour porpoise to a 25-metre blue whale that fills the long hall. The models are accurate down to the scarring, and the lighting and recorded whale-song give the space the feel of an underwater chapel.
It is one of the better places in Iceland to take children, and adults who like marine biology will find more depth here than they expect — the audio guides go into detail on each species' behaviour, distribution, and the long, complicated relationship between Iceland and whaling.
