Crosshaven

Crosshaven, about 8 kilometres south of Carrigaline at the mouth of Cork Harbour, is the nearest coastal village and a natural destination for a half-day outing. The village sits where the Owenabue River meets the harbour, with a small beach, a fishing pier, and fine views across to Cobh on the opposite shore.

The Royal Cork Yacht Club, founded in 1720 and the world's oldest, is based here and gives the village a sailing character that intensifies through the summer months. The waterfront pubs do a reliable trade with the sailing crowd and make a good stop for lunch or a drink after exploring the village. The walk along the headland toward Camden Fort offers some of the best views of Cork Harbour's outer approaches.

A story
Crosshaven is home to the Royal Cork Yacht Club, which was founded in 1720 and is generally considered the world's oldest yacht club still in operation. The club has been based at various Cork Harbour locations over the centuries, settling at Crosshaven in the 20th century. In summer the harbour fills with sailing boats, and the club hosts regattas that draw competitors from across Europe.
